Tool 1 – Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian
Commission to design a 'tool based gift' to accompany the Tools: Extending Our Reach exhibition.
Tool-1 is a rework of my favourite desktop companion, the digital callipers. It takes circles, depths and tricky shapes in its stride and eases translating objects onto and off the page.
Tool-1 replaces the faux metallic finish and naff graphics of the stock callipers with a laminated fluorescent scale and modern Swiss font for visual peace of mind.
Tool-1 was exhibited alongside a selection of pieces from American and international designers. The newly renovated Cooper Hewitt Shop received upwards of one hundred thousand visitors over the course of the exhibition.
